T HE I)ETEItMINATION of the average survival tinse or life spats of erythrocytes etshatices nsarkedly the appraisal of the etiology of atsensias amsd other pathologic states.’ The most direct approach is to measure the survival of the erythrocytes svithits their tiattsral envirotstssetit. Heretofore, techtsics pertssittitsg this approach have itsvolved the use of isotopes of irots (Fe59), isitrogets (N’5) atid carbots (C’4) atsd have beets cumbersonse due to the complexities of the analysis of these isotopes atsd the factor of reutilizat.iots of the isotope by erythro( y 5 The differential agglutination techtsic of Ashhy, although very useful, permits otsly the appraisal of dotsor cells withits a secotsd individual. Erythrocytes have beets tagged in vivo by the intravenous injectiots of 200-300 tssicrocuries of Xa Cr51O4. The procedures atsd results of this approach are givets below.

Effect of Gallic Acid on Reactivation of Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase Inhibited by Diazinon in Vitro and in Vivo
Background and purpose: Diazinon is an organophosphate insecticide that binds to the acetylcholinesterase enzyme after metabolization causing its inactivation. Galic acid is a polyphenolic compound with nucleophilic properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of gallic acid on reactivation of acetylcholine and butyrylcholinesterase inhibited by diazinon in mice and human se...
متن کاملAn Ex-Vivo Study on the Stereoselective Accumulation of Mefloquine Enantiomers in Human Blood Fractions
Mefloquine (MFQ), as a racemic mixture is used for the prophylaxis and treatment of malaria. Stereoselective pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic differences have been observed for MFQ. In the present study, the human blood was spiked with racemic MFQ. The concentration of MFQ enantiomers in various blood fractions including packed erythrocyte layer, platelet rich plasma and platelet poor...

The marked affinity of erythrocytes for hexavalent chromate anion was reported in 1950 by Gray and Sterling (1). Since then, erythrocytes labeled with radioactive sodium chromate have been used extensively for the determination of erythrocyte survival in vivo (1-5) and the determination of blood volume (4-6). The anionic hexavalent form of chromium is bound firmly to erythrocytes, is not reutil...

With the technieal aid of Helen Munroe I HE STUDY of survival of transfused, compatible red cells, or of autotransfused red cells, has become of general use as a hematologic procedure since the introduction of the Cr51 tagging method.1 In the determination of red cell survival there is a tendency to ignore the immediate loss of the transfused cells, by taking as 100 per cent value the radioacti...

By SHIRLEY EBBE,#{176} MARIO BALDINI AND JANET DONOVAN T HE ABILITY of platelets to survive in the circulation appears to be their most labile property. Platelets may function normally in blood coagulation in the presence of damage severe enough to prevent their circulation when transfused to compatible recipients.1 After storage for 2 weeks, platelets still exhibit clot retraction,2 one of the...
